"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it's the only thing that ever has."

   -- Margaret Mead

"When I see a horse, I see an animal whose ancestors time and time again were the only creatures on earth standing between my ancestors and certain death. And I realize that I might not even be here   if it were not for these majestic animals. I do what I can for them knowing that it is enough that I am of value to somebody today. Please support your local SPCA and   Equine Rescue Services."

               --Author Bob Miller 2004

Habitat for Horses is one of the largest equine protection organizations in the country, with supporters in every state and around the world.  While our main facilities are in Texas, we have foster homes and adopted horses throughout the United States. With hundreds of active volunteers, Habitat for Horses maintains an extensive network of foster homes that devote much of their lives to the rehabilitation and retraining of the equine that come through our gates.

Every year we complete hundreds of investigations and touch the lives of thousands of horses. Since our main emphasis is the education of the owner, we are able to successfully complete most of those investigations. When required, we assist law enforcement in taking the case through the court system and placing the horses in foster homes.

Harlem Elementary 4th Grade Fund Raiser-- Baytown, Texas, May 2, 2011 -- Two 4th grade classes at Harlem Elementary in Baytown, Texas (Goose Creek Consolidated ISD) created poetry books which they sold in their community to raise an unbelievable $1,110.00 for Habitat for Horses!! Their teachers, Mrs. Debra Raschell, (a member and adopter) and Mrs. LeDay, with the support of Principal Warford, helped the kids organize the fundraiser to benefit Habitat for Horses. The kids did an AWESOME job. "Sir Munchkin of Habitat", an adorable miniature horse, as well as "Feather" made the visit and were very patient as the kids surrounded them to ask questions and give them kisses and scratches! Sanctuary Lost: Death in the Montana Mountains

To look at the website, no longer available), you’d almost think that these animals found a little piece of heaven, and I’m sure those who sent their animals here believed it also. Beautiful mountains, a flowing river, forever views and it what now seems like a far too typical caretaker – employees that flat out don’t give a damn about animals in pain.   Read the whole story or Jump to the conclusion
