March 25, 1998

14.2 hh
Color: Chestnut
Markings:
Blaze, 3 socks Arrival
Date: July
2006, returned July 2007
Location:
Madisonville, TX
Adoption Fee:
$100
Temperament: He
has come around very
well. He tolerates
everyone and everything
very well, unless it has
to do with his rear legs
(see issues).
Physical problems /
health issues:
Vaquaro has a weak back
and a curve to his
spine. His tail is also
bent as though it was
broken. He cannot flag
his tail. He gets
apprehensive when his
rear legs are approached
and does not seem to be
able to bear weight well
on the right rear. He
has been tranquilized
for trimming and cookies
work very well as
training aids to get him
to realize it is okay if
someone touches his
legs.
Interaction with horses:
Loves everyone and gets
along great, which is
surprising since he was
a stallion for so
long. However, he likes
his own space when he
eats. He will pin his
ears at other horses,
but that is it.
Interaction with people:
He is warming up very
well. If he is in a
stall, I can spray him
with fly spray, groom
him and sometimes work
with his legs without
restraint. In the
pasture he will
typically let me come up
to him, but sometimes
not. He is very easy to
work with and is not as
nervous as he first
was. He is very food
oriented and loves
cookies.
History: Adopted
then relinquished.
Training / abilities:
Untrained. He has a weak
back and with the hind
end issues, companion
only. It was thought
that he had some saddle
training, but he became
very nervous when I
tried to saddle him.
Experience level
required to work with
this horse:
Intermediate, due to leg
issues.
Has this horse ever:
Bucked? No.
Reared? No.
Kicked?
No. Bitten? No. Other?
Ground handling:
Catch? Sometimes,
easy in a stall or near
feeding time.
Lead? Yes. Tie?
Yes. Trailer?
Yes. Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet?
Needs sedation at
this time. He is doing
better with each time,
so he may come to
realize that nothing is
going to hurt him.
Bathe?
Yes. He had a
skin problem and got
frequent baths. Although
he did not seem to like
it, he tolerated it
well, even when I
scrubbed his legs for
the bad case of
scratches he had.
Special needs:
This horse is a real
love. I think he would
fit in well any
where. He really wants a
home where someone will
just love him for who he
is, hang-ups and all. I
would adopt this horse
if I could, but cannot
due to too many other
horses. He is quite a
character and has a good
personality. I do not
see his issues as being
much to deal with.
