$350
Temperament:
Tristan is a very sweet,
laid-back, good-looking
little guy, who comes up
to you for love and
affection. He has made
friends with our Pygmy
goat and the goat stands
on top of an igloo
doghouse to lean over
the fence and
visit. They are often
seen head to head.
Tristan has also been
turned out with our
Great Pyrenees and has
no fear of the big dog,
but she is respectful of
the horses. I cannot say
enough good things about
this horse and credit
his former foster Mom
for doing an excellent
job of training him. He
is gentle, smart and a
joy to be around but I
feel he should be with
someone who could spend
more time with him and
continue his training.
Physical problems / health issues:
None known.
Interaction with horses:
Tristan has only been
turned out with my
Miniature horses and
while he was playful and
friendly, my mini
gelding only wants to
chase him away from
“his” mini mare and is
very jealous of him. He
has visited over the
fence with two grown
horses and they all did
fine, but I never turned
them out together. I
have turned him out with
the miniature mare with
no problems at all
(other than the mini
gelding sulking).
Interaction with people:
History: Born
about two months after
his dam was seized by law
enforcement and awarded
to the organization.
Training / abilities:
Tristan walks up to you
for love and attention,
so very easy to halter
and lead. I recently
tried to load him in a 4
horse stock trailer and
he did not want to step
up. He was delivered to
me with a ramp load
trailer.
Experience level
required to work with
this horse: Just
recently Tristan
has become very pushy at
feeding time. He needs
someone with experience
with younger horses to
teach him to respect the
handlers’ space and to
continue his ground and
trailer training. Though
he has a wonderful
temperament, I would not
recommend him for a
young child or as a
“first horse” to anyone
lacking experience with
young horses due to the
fact that he wants to
have his way at times.
Has this horse ever:
Bucked?
No. Reared? No.
Kicked?
No. Bitten?
No. Other?
No.
Ground handling:
Catch? Yes.
Lead? Yes. Tie?
He did for
previous foster, I have
not tied him.
Trailer? No.
Clip?
Unknown.
Trim Feet?
Yes, practically laid
his head on my shoulder
and snoozed through the
trimming.
Bathe?
Unknown at this time.
Special needs:
Purina Jr. Equine - 6
cups twice daily but
must watch him and
increase as needed as he
is still growing. We
currently give him 1 to
1 ½ flakes of coastal
hay AM and PM. I worm
him on a monthly basis,
rotating between
Ivermectin and Safegard
and just blend it into
his wet food.
Other comments:
Very striking; he has
the Arabian head and the
Pinto coloring. His
color is very
unique. This one will
steal your heart!
