Temperament: Tinsel is such a talker and loves everyone she meets.  She will nicker constantly until someone comes over to pet her and give her a cookie. Great personality, nice ground manners.

Physical problems / health issues: Arthritis, especially in her back right hip and stifle area.  If she runs at all (which she does not do often), she ends up gimpy and in need of bute, so she's not a candidate for riding.  Tinsel also has some scarring on her upper left leg, looks like an old wire injury. This could also be contributing to her arthritis.

Interaction with horses: Can be dominant with others in a herd, chased some horses a bit, but not aggressively.

Interaction with people: Loves being fawned over and groomed, just a real people-oriented horse. Would rather be in the barn or with her humans than with other horses.

History: Seized due to neglect and awarded to the organization.  Has been a broodmare.

Training / abilities: Tinsel stands well for saddling and was mounted by her foster mom and led around an arena.  That was all that was done as a first try to acclimate her to an area of the property she didn't know very well. She did very good with the introduction to a new area with lots of activity and with the first test at riding.  She was also saddled and had a kid aboard a few weeks later.  She was lead around again.  She was spooked by a loud noise across the street and did whirl around quickly.  The child was being supervised and was not riding independently.  In a third riding instance, she was saddled and led on a windy day and did end up doing some little bucks (not really intending to dislodge her rider) with a 13 year old aboard.  Tinsel has some training under saddle in her history, but her foster mom feels it was some time ago and she will need reconditioning and refamiliarization with what is expected.  Her personality is such that she should come along very quickly if a few weeks were spent with her on this.  Tinsel will probably still have some nice get up and go to her once she gets back in the swing of riding.  She does not know how to lunge.

Tinsel has some training under saddle in her history, but her foster mom feels it was some time ago.  She needs reconditioning and refamiliarization with what is expected.  Unfortunately, any strenuous activity causes her to get gimpy and stiff because of her arthritis.  It would be best if she was not ridden.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Advanced Beginner.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Yes. Trim Feet? Yes, but needs work on regularly picking them up for cleaning. Bathe? Yes.

Special needs: Senior feeding, though she's really bounced back quickly from starvation.  She's not very old and will probably be a pretty easy keeper once back up to her full weight.

Other comments: Sweet as they come, darling face, nice confirmation, the most talkative horse around the barn.
