Temperament: Star is very easy going and much calmer than most thoroughbreds.  He has none of the common thoroughbred vices.

Physical problems / health issues: Star has a bone chip on his front right knee but it has not seemed to cause him any problems recently.  He runs, jumps and plays just fine.

Interaction with horses:Starr gets along with everyone and is rather low in the herd order.  He is currently with geldings; don’t know about interaction with mares but is probably just fine since he’s so easy going.

Interaction with people:

History: Seized by law enforcement and awarded to the organization. He was previously raced.

Training / abilities: Starr was a racehorse through 2005 so he’s traveled quite a bit and been ridden everywhere.  He will be tested under saddle very soon.  Starr would make a fantastic dressage and hunter horse.  His jumping abilities would be very limited since he has the bone chip in his front knee.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Advanced beginner on the ground.  His riding abilities are unknown right now.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other? No.

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Yes.

Special needs: Since Starr is a large thoroughbred; he needs a little more feed than some other horses.  However, it is not believed that he will be an extremely difficult keeper.  Right now he gets 12 lbs of feed daily with beet pulp and has been putting on weight nicely.

Other comments:  Starr is one of the easiest going thoroughbreds to come through the rescue.  He does not crib, weave, or have any of the other thoroughbred vices.  His feet are not bad for a thoroughbred but they are a little thin.  He has had some abscesses in the past but those seem to have cleared up nicely.  All-in-all, Starr is quite the “catch” for a prime-aged thoroughbred!
