Temperament: Starman is a very sweet, easy going guy. He is very easy to handle.

Physical problems / health issues: Starman does not seem to have any health issues from what we can see. He just needs to gain weight.

Interaction with horses: He was out with two other geldings and a mare when he was relinquished. He was the more dominant horse but is not mean.

Interaction with people: Starman loves people and is very gentle and easy to work with. He is pushy at feeding time probably due to previous situation.

History: Relinquished by his former owner who could not care for him properly. He was relinquished with Dreamer 07-138 and they are best buddies.

Training / abilities: Reported to be well broke to ride and supposedly had young adults riding him. The former owner said he did not like men riding him. Once he gains more weight he will be evaluated for his riding abilities. He has had his feet trimmed and he was very easy. He was also very easy to bathe and for the vet to work with. He seems to have a very stable personality.

Riding Evaluation: Practiced a little ground work to see if he knew any give to pressure. Great with forequarters, not so great with hind end. Does know how to back, but definitely better from ground than from saddle. Placed a halbreed sidepull (sidepull w/snaffle bit) in his mouth and he handled it well with only minor chewing. Decided to ride him in that. Gave no problem at all with saddling and was not worked prior to my getting on. Was a little cold backed at first but never offered to buck. I rode him out at a walk for several circuits of the pasture to get him loosened up, which worked. His main problem was drifting always in the direction of his buddy Dreamer whom was locked in a different pen. He eventually loosened up and was ready to trot; he did a very nice slow trot for me in both directions, stopped, and backed up. Canter was a little discombobulated--I feel from simple rustiness. But he did canter in both directions. He picks up the right lead much easier than the left. After I got off I put a hackamore on him to see if he might be familiar with it and he did seem as though he may have been ridden in one. He does not know how to neck rein. With a month of regular riding I think he will be ready for an intermediate rider.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner/Intermediate on the ground.
