Temperament: Spade is a gorgeous horse, stocky for an Arab. His trainer says people will stop and comment on how beautiful he is. He has some fear issues, but is improving. If you take your time with him, he does well.

Physical problems / health issues: None.

Interaction with horses: Seems to be ok, but he was recently gelded, so not really known yet.

Interaction with people: Spade can be a bit standoffish. He doesn’t fully trust people yet. If you don’t come towards him, he’s totally fine. If someone comes towards him, or puts their hand out, he will snort and back away. But he doesn’t get aggressive.

History:

Training / abilities: He has recently been trained to go under saddle, and is coming along nicely. He seems to like the attention! His trainer says he has nice movement, and could easily go English or Western. He apparently loves to jump, and can handle some very high fences. He’s jumped all sorts of fences at his foster home!

Experience level required to work with this horse: Experienced, as he’s only recently been in training, and still needs work on trust.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?  

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Spade is fearful of being tied. He will test the rope to see if he can get it to give a little. If the rope is tied, he will panic and sit back. But if it’s simply draped, he will stand there just fine and won’t try to get away. Trailer? Unknown. Clip?  Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Yes.

Other comments: Spade is a beautiful horse with a long mane and lots of chrome! He glides when he moves, and would be great for any discipline. He needs someone who will take the time to gain his trust, and help him develop into the great horse we know he can be.
