Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision"

Explain overall Health:  Cisco is a very easy keeper. He is currently on pasture only. We stopped feeding him grain a year ago due to the fact be became overweight. He still needs to lose some weight. He should do fine on good pasture or good hay without any grain. His hooves are trimmed barefoot. He has nice healthy, hard hooves and does not need shoes.  He has a nice thick mane and tail, and a shiny coat.

Explain overall socialization: Cisco is a very sweet horse. He lets us touch him all over. He currently lives with two geldings. He tends to buddy up with one horse. He gets along okay with others, he’s not a bully. He has previously been pastured with a mare before coming to live with us and he got along well with her, too.

Explain manners: Cisco is easy to catch. The only time we had a problem with him was when he first came to live with us, but after a day or two he realized we were okay and has not been a problem to catch since. When you first take him home, you might want to put him in a smaller enclosure for a few days until he becomes familiar with you before letting him loose in a big pasture. Previous owner stated he was easy to load but since he has been with us we have not trailered him anywhere. Cisco leads well and stands quietly while tied. He stands well to have his feet trimmed and does not have a problem with bathing. He is okay with fly spray as long as he is on a halter and lead, he stands quietly. He has never kicked or bitten any of us.

Explain overall training:  Cisco stands well while being tacked and mounted. He is currently mostly ridden by a 12 year old beginner.  His previous owner trained him when he was 4 years old and rode him extensively on trails. We have not been able to take him out on trails but  we have ridden down the road around our home and he did well. He never spooked, even when a dog came out barking viciously right in his face. He is lazy and prefers not to trot. Adult riders in our home can get him to trot and keep him trotting, but he won’t keep going for the 12 year old. We have not tried to ride him at a canter and we have not worked on backing him up. He could probably use more refinement training under saddle if you want to go beyond walk/trot on trails. He is a smart horse and learns quickly. He does do a nice “one rein stop”. We have worked extensively on the ground with him using natural horsemanship methods. He is respectful on the ground and does well with his groundwork.

Explain history if known:  Donated to HFH.
