Temperament: Sandy is a sweet boy and very gentle and quiet. He is good with the kids at his foster home and seems to enjoy the attention he gets. He is very curious about everything going on ins his area and will wander over to where things are going on to check them out. He does not seem to be spooky about new things.

Physical problems / health issues: He was seen by the vet on 10-2-07 and given all his shots. He does not appear to have any health issues. He has a scar above his left knee that seems old. He shows no problem at all and has been prancing around his pasture with no problem. His teeth are in good shape.

Interaction with horses: He was in a pasture with a donkey before coming to HfH. He has been out in the pasture with an older gelding that was the dominant horse at my house. They have had a few "discussions" about who is "boss horse" and it seems to be getting worked out. He can definitely try to be dominant, but most issues come at feeding time and as long as they are separated for feeding, there are no problems.

Interaction with people: Sandy seems to like being around people. He will come to where the people are when they come to the barn or to his pasture. He is extremely curious about everything. He is very calm and has good ground manners even with kids around him.

History: Unknown.

Training / abilities: It was said that he was ridable. We have been working with him on a lead and my 10 year old can lead him around just fine. He still needs a little reinforcement with WHOA, but it's just a matter of practice. He was seen by the farrier and was great. Stood like a little gentleman to be trimmed and displayed no bad manners at all. Tested him a bit recently about new things and whether he might be ridable. He will allow you to pull a rope around his chest like a cinch and it does not bother him a bit. I have lain over his back with both arms and put weight on him and he just stands there.  UPDATE:  Sandy Boy is being ridden English and is doing great and even jumping.  He does not do well with a western saddle.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner on the ground.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Unknown. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Unknown.
