Temperament: So far, a gentleman on the ground and very personable.  Loves to romp, run and roll in the grass.  Can be skittish at times, so needs a confident handler.

Physical problems / health issues: None known.

Interaction with horses: Getting along great with a mare so far.

Interaction with people:

History: Seized by law enforcement and awarded to the organization.

Training / abilities: Romano has the potential to do anything with proper training. He is currently being started under saddle with a trainer. His trainer gave this report on Romano’s progress on 5/18/07.

Today was Romano's first day of riding in the round pen; turning, whoaing, backing up, etc.  For the last 2 weeks, we went back to the basics, and it really helped him. I worked him all tacked up headstall, bit and all.  I worked him on drive lines/ 2 lunge lines driving him, working on his flexion and bending at the pole when backing up and asked to whoa. Something went off in his head and he finally decided that I wasn't going to beat him, and gained confidence in me as a leader and he decided to join up. He is doing great.  For the next few weeks we are going to build on his confidence, working on refinement/collection at a walk and then we will graduate to a trot and canter.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Intermediate.

Has this horse ever: Bucked? No. Reared? Yes, when scared and too much pressure is applied. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other? Paws when she gets frustrated or excited.

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet? Yes, but needs work.  Bathe? Yes.

Special needs: None known.

Other comments: This gelding has super breeding and should do well in sports with training.
