Rom
Breed: Donkey
Sex: Gelding
DOB:  07/2008
Height:
Color: Tan
Markings: Large star, white on muzzle
Location: Hitchcock, TX
Adoption Fee: $100

Temperament: Rom wants to be friendly but is still scared.  He is virtually still a baby.  He has not had a lot of human contact in his brief life but is getting used to people and treats they offer.

Physical problems / health issues: None.

Interaction with horses: Being kept with three other donkeys and away from the large herd of horses since he was recently gelded.

Interaction with people:  Shy and unsure of humans.  Not at all used to people so he will have to learn a lot.

History: Rescued with a small herd of donkeys from Galveston Island after hurricane Ike.

Training / abilities: Rom is wearing a halter but he is not really halter broke yet.  If you get hold of his halter, he tries to walk with you a few steps but he cannot be tied yet.  When rescued, the donkeys were herded into the trailer so it cannot be said that he trailers well, either.  Since all the donkeys have offered to kick, their feet have not yet been trimmed.

Experience level required to work with this donkey: Experienced.

Has this donkey ever:  Bucked? No Reared? No Kicked? Offered to Bitten? No Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes since he is haltered already Lead? No Tie? No Trailer? No Clip? Unknown Trim Feet? No Bathe? No

Special needs: Patience.

Other comments: This young guy is a good looking donkey.  He seems to be willing to learn but has had so little contact with people that it will take patience and a kind person to see him through his training.  It will, however, be well worth the effort.  He is so young that once you have his confidence, he should take to training well.
