Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision"

Explain overall Health:  Regal is an easy keeper, maintained on coastal hay and Equine Endurance, which is 11% protein, 11% fat, and 13% fiber.  He is also on diatomaceous earth for deworming, mineral salt block, and ½ cup Calf Manna daily.  He has had no health problems while at Whispering Winds Training Center.  He does have an arthritic right knee which causes him no pain and no lameness.  Regal is barefoot with good, strong hooves and would only require shoes if being ridden in rocky terrain.

Explain overall socialization: When Regal first came to Whispering Winds Training Center, he was basically untouchable, almost impossible to halter.  He was very distrusting of people.  With slow progress, he began to trust one person only.  This person was able to halter him in a stall but not catch him in the pasture.  He avoided human contact  unless a treat or food was involved.   In the herd situation, he gravitated toward one horse and was always with that horse.  He is generally on the bottom of the pecking order.  He has an “I just want to get along” attitude with all the other horses with no aggression whatsoever.  Regal has come a long way, and now can be caught in the pasture and haltered and will sometimes even come up to people.  His ears are always up and he seems to be overall happy whereas before he appeared somewhat depressed.  Regal would do best in a situation where there is only one other horse or, if in a herd, is able to eat alone so that he is not chased off the feed and/or hay.

Explain manners: Regal has come a very long way.  When he came here he would not load and could not have his feet done or be tied.  He now loads right into the trailer and will stand tied as long as you need him to be tied.  He has never offered to kick but has reared in the distant past.  This is no longer a bad behavior he exhibits in any way.  He is very obedient, alert, and willing.  He is a true pleasure to be around.

Explain overall training:  Regal spent two months at Trugon Ranch with David Mitchell and his assistant, Aldrich.  In such a short time, Regal underwent a total transformation from a scared, insecure horse with a strong flight or fight response to being a true treasure.  He learned his ground manners and patience.  He was desensitized and is not spooky.  He was started under saddle and is still very green as far as steering but is very willing and accepting.  He has only been ridden in a bitless bridle and would need to learn to carry a bit if his forever home desires this.  He is absolutely controllable in a side pull or bitless bridle or even a halter.  He has never offered to take off or do anything other than what is being asked of him.  He will sometimes become a little nervous under saddle which the rider can feel in that Regal becomes tense; however, he never acts out.  He tries very hard to please.  He is a “typical” Arab in that he is smart and loving and very willing.  Once he bonds with someone he will  do anything to please that person.  It took a very long time to break through Regal’s defenses, but with the help of Trugon Ranch, Regal’s wall is down and he is the spectacular horse I always knew he could be.  His riding abilities will only get better with time.  He is going to make someone an incredible trail horse and forever partner.  He is ready to find that one person who will give him the love and attention he deserves and someone to whom he can give his love and devotion.  Horses like Regal do not come along very often, and whoever adopts him will be truly blessed to have Regal in their life.

Explain history if known:  Was neglected and abused in the past.
