“These assessments are based on how these horses respond in their current environment and any change in their current environment, riders, diet, etc could have an effect on the horses' immediate performance. Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision"

Overall is Healthy

 B

Explain overall health:   When used as a performance horse he had problems keeping his weight up but now that he is retired, this should no longer be a problem.  He used to be a racer.  His teeth are good.  He is barefoot and his hooves are in good condition.  He was donated because he has age-related arthritis and cannot be ridden hard or daily.  He is on a joint supplement.  He was also found to have navicular lesions in both front hooves but this only means he needs proper trimming on a regular schedule.

Social Skills

Can touch face  A Gets along with geldings  A

Can touch ears  A
Explain overall socialization:   Redman is a handsome gentle horse who loves attention from people.  He is big but he would not do intentional harm to anyone or other animals.  He loves pets from anyone.  He gets along well with both people and horses.

Easy to catch  A Picks up feet for farrier  A
Easy to load  A Easy to Bathe  A
Easy to halter  A Easy to Trim  A
Easy to lead  A Easy to Fly Spray  A
Ties  B Kicks NO
Explain manners:   Redman has wonderful manners but does not like to be tied for extended periods of time; for example, tied to a trailer.  He had an accident while tied and is nervous now when he is left alone and thinks he cannot get loose.  A person can hold him just fine and he can be tied for grooming or tacking up.  He stands well for the farrier and for grooming.  When he is fly sprayed, he prefers that you show him the bottle first and let him know you are going to use it.  He prefers to live in a pasture or outdoor pen and frets when stalled inside for more than a day.

Riding Skills Score   Score
Stands while being tacked  A Walks  A
Stands while being mounted  A Trots  A
Easily moves out  A Lopes/Canters  N/A
Does well on trails  C Runs  N/A
Does well in arenas  A Backs up  A
Explain overall training:   Redman has back pain caused by arthritis and was donated because he couldn’t be ridden hard on a daily basis.  He can be ridden easily at a walk or trot but anything faster causes him pain.  His former owner reported that he does not like trails much.  He would be perfect for a person or family who just wants a very nice  handsome horse to ride lightly and won’t push him beyond his physical limits.

Explain history if known:   Redman was donated by his owner who wanted a horse that could be ridden hard daily.
