PeekaBoo
Breed: Quarterhorse
Sex: Mare
DOB: 25  years
Weight:
Height: 15.1 hh
Location: Manor, TX
Adoption Fee: $100

Temperament: Peekaboo is calm and trusting, she likes attention from humans and will choose to be with her person over other horses.  She can get insecure without a buddy though, she does need equine companionship.  She would not do well as an only horse.  This mare is looking for that one person to bond with and would be fine for youngsters.

Physical problems / health issues: Suffered from malnourishment and was rehabbed.  Unfortunately, she suffered a fall when running in the pasture that affected her neurologically for a month or so.  She has improved daily, and her vets feel she will make a full recovery.  Then she could be ridden very lightly. With the fall and some neurological after-affects, she seems to be favoring a back leg a bit, but this should continue to improve over time. She's pasture sound currently at a walk. The little lameness detected was at a trot.

Interaction with horses: Gets along fine with others, not dominant in present herd situation.

Interaction with people:

History: Seized by law enforcement and awarded to the organization. Pleasure horse?

Training / abilities: Peekaboo is a great riding horse with nice skills.  Well broke and an enjoyable ride still.  However, at this time, she still needs neurological recovery to ensure she has all motor functions and coordination before someone gets on her.  Perhaps by end of summer, she could be lightly ridden.  Lighter riding would mean mostly walking with some trotting around the ranch or light work in an arena for limited periods of time.  She would make a great companion right now though, she gets along with all types of horses. Well trained, stands well for mounting and responded to reining with just a sidepull used to control her.  Rider didn't saddle her up yet since she's still had some weight to gain along her spine when tested, but she did well with just a bareback pad.  She neck reins as well as direct reins and was very willing.  Exhibited no bad habits.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner on the ground and should be fine under saddle as well in a controlled environment. Has not been tried away from comfort zone.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other? No.

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes Clip? Yes. Trim Feet? Yes Bathe? Yes

Special needs: Peek cannot chew coastal, she can eat alfalfa and does need this as part of her diet.  She's also on senior feed.

Other comments: Peekaboo was seized with an auction tag and show sheen still on her.  She was seized from a feed lot.  We know she is used to gentle handling and treats. She stands very well for a blanket (she acted as if she knew she deserved one in the cold weather!)    She was very special to someone at one point in her life and is used to being the center of someone's attention.  This special mare deserves this again now!
