“These assessments are based on how these horses respond in their current environment and any change in their current environment, riders, diet, etc could have an effect on the horses' immediate performance. Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision"

Explain overall Health:  Recent Vet visit May 2010, clean bill of heath, she is needle shy and needed a little tranquilizer to complete the shot regime.  She also does like fly spray around her legs or hoofs. She works hoofs easily.   She washes by hand – needs to be tied off to keep her from crowding.

Explain overall socialization:   Big O runs with our cattle. She had some bad habits around her feed trough; however the cows have cured her. She now is comfortable eating with others in the trough.  Given her size and attitude she tends to be queen mother for the younger cows – stays with them, attempts to protects newborn calves by placing herself between you and the calf.  When there are no new calves she moves into and out of the herd – some days she is off by herself, others she is bedded down amongst the cattle.

Explain manners:  Big O is a horse who, given she wants what you want, she is very compliant. She needs an experienced horse person due to her size.  She has an even temperament. She stamps her feet when she is frustrated.  We keep O in the fields most of the time. She is very easy to walk up too and catch and will lead all day.   She will also come to my call, especially when food is involved. She lives for her stomach. She tends to respond best to men, my wife can make her move, however it’s more effort than I have to apply for the same results.   She is a big horse and knows it.

Explain overall training:  We have not ridden O – we have tacked her up several times. She needs extra large equipment to be properly saddled. She stands quietly while being tacked and is easily led either by a lead rope or reins. She acts like she has been ridden and shows no issue with tacking (ears forward, with a bemused look).  We have not worked with her enough to get a good feel for the level of her past training.  I believe she would be an excellent saddle, or harness animal given someone can spend the time with her to have her reach her potential.

Explain history if known:  We have no history prior to fostering her. She has been with us a year and in that time she has been healthy and had no stressors or “incidents”. When we picked her up she was with another horse, since she has been with us she has only been exposed to two mini horses but only for a brief time. She did fine with the minis.
