Temperament:   Oliver was just gelded in early January, so we are giving him a little time to figure that out.  He is friendly and likes to have his head petted.  He is food aggressive, but he is getting better about it.  He is starting to figure out that he gets regular feedings now and that seems to have settled some of his aggression.

Physical problems / health issues:  Oliver has at one point rubbed his mane out and it is in the process of growing that back.  He has also rubbed the top hairs of his tail out and looks like he might have some fungal patches.  We anticipate this condition improving with proper feed and worming.  Other than that, he appears to be healthy.

Interaction with horses:  As noted above, Oliver was recently gelded, so he will need to be kept separated from mares for a while.  We just started turning him out with our geldings and they all seem to get along well.

Interaction with people:  We suspect that Oliver has not had a lot of handling and he currently doesn’t have a healthy respect of people and their space.  We are working on his halter manners and doing some round pen work with him.  He seems to enjoy being worked in the round pen and suspect that he likes having a job.

History:   It is our understanding that Oliver was found running loose in Rockwall County and taken in by the Sheriff’s department.  The owner didn’t want to pay the fine to get him back, so he was relinquished to Habitat for Horses.

Training / abilities:  Oliver doesn’t know a lot about halter manners, but he seems very trainable.  He seems to enjoy working in the round pen and having a job to do.  There is no reason why he wouldn’t make a nice riding horse with the proper training.  He is fairly small at about 14 hands and he has a slight build, so a smaller rider would be recommended.

Experience level required to work with this horse:  Oliver currently needs an experienced horse person to help him learn his manners and further his training.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked?  No Reared? No Kicked? Yes, when he first arrived at feeding time, but not since then Bitten? No  Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes  Lead? Yes, but needs some work  Tie? Unknown Trailer? Yes Clip? Unknown Trim Feet? Unknown Bathe? Unknown

Special needs: None.
