“These assessments are based on how these horses respond in their current environment and any change in their current environment, riders, diet, etc could have an effect on the horses' immediate performance. Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision"

General Health Score   Score
Maintains weight well  A Teeth in good condition  A
Hooves in good condition  Z Overall is Healthy  A
Explain overall health:   No known health issues.

Social Skills Score   Score
Responds well to people  Z Gets along with mares  A
Can touch face  Z Gets along with geldings  A
Can touch ears  Z
Explain overall socialization:   Good with horses; very shy and distrusting of people. Rusty hides if given the chance, and depends on his proximity to Obsidian to feel safe. He is quite attached to Obsidian, one would even say attached at the hip. He would need to at least be fostered with Obsidian until he can grow to trust humans enough to be comfortable on his own.

Ground Manners Score   Score
Easy to catch  Z Picks up feet for farrier  Z
Easy to load  Z Easy to Bathe  Z
Easy to halter  Z Easy to Trim  Z
Easy to lead  Z Easy to Fly Spray  Z
Ties  Z Kicks NO
Explain manners:   The trainers in Montana believe they were the first ones to ever halter him. He is very touchy and sensitive, and will pull away under any quick pressure. He did well after spending some time with him and loaded easily, however he still requires a lot of ground work and trust building before you can even hope to begin riding him.

Riding Skills Score   Score
Stands while being tacked  Z Walks  Z
Stands while being mounted  Z Trots  Z
Easily moves out  Z Lopes/Canters  Z
Does well on trails  Z Runs  Z
Does well in arenas  Z Backs up  Z
Explain overall training:   None.

Explain history if known:    An equine sanctuary in Montana rescued about 80 horses and donkeys in January 2011 when a different local horse rescue had to close its doors. History prior to that is unknown. Rusty came into our care in March 2011.
