“These assessments are based on how these horses respond in their current environment and any change in their current environment, riders, diet, etc could have an effect on the horses' immediate performance. Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision"

Explain overall health:   No known health issues.

Social Skills Score   Score
Responds well to people  B Gets along with mares  A
Can touch face  B Gets along with geldings  A
Can touch ears  D
Explain overall socialization:   Good with people and horses, but still slow to trust people. The trainer in Montana reported that he progressed at a very steady pace of becoming more willing and confident. Rusty is quite attached to him, and Navarro can almost always be found with them. He is a little hesitant around people, but willing to trust when given time. He has a sweet disposition and is very willing for the right person who can be patient with him. If adopted, Rusty would need to at least be fostered with him as Rusty has not learned to trust people.

Ground Manners Score   Score

Easy to load  Z Easy to Bathe  Z
Easy to halter  Z Easy to Trim  Z
Easy to lead  Z Easy to Fly Spray  Z

Explain manners:   He can be haltered relatively easily if you're slow and patient. He was worked with for almost two months to be haltered and led, but is still learning.

Stands while being tacked  Z Walks  Z
Stands while being mounted  Z Trots  Z
Easily moves out  Z Lopes/Canters  Z
Does well on trails  Z Runs  Z
Does well in arenas  Z Backs up  Z
Explain overall training:   He rides well but is still scared when mounting or dismounting. He moves his shoulders, hips, and back fine. He still gets hard and scared under higher pressure, but if you take it slow, he does very well.

Explain history if known:    An equine sanctuary in Montana rescued about 80 horses and donkeys in January 2011 when a different local horse rescue had to close its doors.  History prior to that is unknown.  Obsidian came into our care in March 2011.
