Temperament: Merry is a very easy-going and smart mare. She catches on easily to her surroundings and training. She is very well mannered and laid back. She is very smart and easily trainable in any given situation.

Physical problems / health issues:

Interaction with horses: She gets along very well with all horses. She immediately got along with all her foster home horse buddies with no problems. When she first came to her foster home she had full access to a 5 stall barn and 1 acre for 1 1/2 months - but recently she has become a part of her fosters herd and now has made friends with horses. Immediately she and her foal got along fantastic with the entire herd - like she had been with them all her life. They all take naps together and watch out for each other as several nap and the others look on - keeping a watchful eye. Today Merry can be found hanging out in 9 acres of pasture with on Arabian gelding, 2 quarter horse mares and 1 Shetland pony mare.

Interaction with people: Very gentle and reserved.

History: She was seized due to neglect. She was one of 18 horses seized in East Texas. Merry and her foal where malnourished and emaciated. Merry went to her foster home on December 23, 2006 where she began her rehabilitation. Her foal was already weaned because Merry had no milk from her condition to supply her baby. She has probably been used as a brood mare all her life. I feel in my heart this may be the first time she has felt truly free! When she was seized she was stalled up in knee deep mud and feces - so she is truly blessed to have found HFH.

Training / abilities: Merry was evaluated 12/07. Merry is a very tolerant horse and is as sweet as can be. She really wants to be loved on but isn’t really sure how to react to it. I lunged and rode Merry and she was very patient even when she was confused. I think that this horse may have been green broke at one time. She is very eager to learn and would probably turn out to be a great kids horse with some regular handling and training. Merry was great to work with and has a wonderful temperament.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Experienced rider for now, but with time and riding, possibly inexperienced.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet? Unknown. Bathe? Unknown.

Special needs:

Other comments: Merry is a very special horse and needs a home where she can be treated as such. If you are loving and give her the attention she deserves she will be your best friend for life.
