Temperament: Mallie is still somewhat wary of humans.  She was an unhandled horse when she came into the rescue.  She is a quick learner and very sweet.  She has a tendency to push her weight around a bit at first until corrected.  However, she modifies her behavior to please her trainer with gentle but firm handling.

Physical problems / health issues: None known.

Interaction with horses: Mallie is dominant over the other horses “her age” in her pasture.  However she is subordinate to the retired gelding who also lives with her.  She will probably be a fairly dominant mare when she matures.

Interaction with people: Mallie is not so much fearful of people as unfamiliar with them.  She is somewhat standoffish at first until she gets to know you.   This is changing quickly and she is adjusting to her new life well.  She is even starting to show affection to the people she knows.  She is surprisingly easy to catch.

History: Mallie was an unhandled horse when she came to HfH.

Training / abilities: Mallie is well built and athletic.  When she grows up a bit she should be able to be trained in just about any discipline.  She is a very nice/straight mover and could do anything from Endurance to Trail Riding to Dressage or Jumping.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Experienced with younger horses.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? Yes, during first foot trim. Kicked? At another horse, not people. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes, could use work leading in, wasn’t completely halter broke last time she was loaded.  Clip? Not yet. Trim Feet? Yes, but needed sedation the first time.  Bathe? Not yet.

Special needs:

Other comments: Mallie is a lovely young mare.  She is very intelligent and learns quickly.  Her handling is getting easier and more productive as she gets more familiar with people.  She doesn’t seem to have had bad experiences with people so much as “no” experiences with them.  She also has nice conformation and is a good mover.
