Temperament: Lola can be a bit of a handful at times with ground manners when her fears get the better of her. Her fear issues will require someone experienced who can work her through them.  When she's comfortable, her manners are good.

Physical problems / health issues: None known.

Interaction with horses: Currently out with herd mates from before the seizure and is the low horse, she gets pushed around.

Interaction with people:

History: Seized by law enforcement then donated to the organization. Possibly a brood mare.

Training / abilities: Lola is coming along in training, but still has some fear of the unknown issues to overcome.  She is being ridden by her trainer now and was even recently taken out on a mini "trail ride" around the pasture.  Her trainer doesn't feel she's a good candidate for a trail horse, but more of an arena horse.  She's the type of mare that does well within her comfort zone but out of it, she needs a good bit of reinforcement and repetition to understand that the tractor she saw two days ago in a different spot is still okay to be around.  Her trainer feels she's probably always going to have a sensitivity to objects and things that go "bump".  Seems to be a mare that likes routine and the comforts of familiar surroundings. Because of this mare's sensitivity, she would do best with arena work.  When scared, she wants to avoid the object of her fears and will scoot to the side pretty quickly.  Her trainer is still working on this issue.

November update: Lola’s ground manners are good and she takes saddling and bridling very well.  She just doesn't know the leg cues and needs further time, training and some wet saddle blankets to get her going.  She spooks at every little thing and will need to be thoroughly desensitized.  In her current environment she is getting a lot of exposure to new sounds, sights and smells.  She is on her toes.  She gets very upset whenever you tighten up the girth on the saddle.  Last night not only did she rear up, she would turn around and act like she was going to bite and fought the saddle.  Once mounted, when asked to move forward she balked.   She is sticky on the right and when she is asked to move left she steps forward and then starts to buck.  When touched with the reins on the hindquarters, she took off like a rocket and wouldn't stop.  I would say she is not trained or not properly trained.  Some of her reactions indicate prior abuse.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Experienced.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? Yes. Reared? Yes. Kicked? Bitten? No Other?  Does not like shots, required sedation.

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes, a couple nights of work and feeding in the trailer helped tremendously. Clip? Unknown Trim Feet? Yes Bathe? Yes.

Special needs:

Other comments: This is a beautiful, tall mare.  She is just very scared of the unknown and needs someone to show her the ropes and keep reinforcing her training.  Lola is probably never going to be a bomb-proof type of horse that can go from the arena to trails. Her ideal adopter would be someone that wanted to do arena work, possibly showing, after continued mileage.
