Temperament: Lillian is a very willing and even tempered mare.  She learns quickly and likes to be handled and worked with.

Physical problems / health issues: None.  This mare came to the rescue because she had a serious colic brought on by a massive consumption of mesquite beans.  Her former owner was unaware of the dangers of this type of diet and was unable to afford her veterinary care.

Interaction with horses:  Somewhat shy and not dominant.  There is one gelding on her foster’s property that she doesn’t get along with but he is pretty grumpy with strangers.  Lillian wants to be with the other horses but is cautious of them.  If a horse acts aggressively to her she squeals and moves away.

Interaction with people: Lillian seems to think that people are here to “serve” her.  She enjoys human company and can’t wait to see what treat you have for her.  She can be a bit disrespectful but learns how to behave quickly with knowledgeable handling.

History: Training / abilities: Has been ridden in her current home.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Experienced.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked?  No Reared? No  Kicked?  No Bitten?  No Other?

Ground handling: Catch?  Yes Lead? Yes  Tie? Yes  Trailer? Yes Clip? unknown Trim Feet? Yes  Bathe? Yes

Special needs: Lillian is at a good weight already and doesn’t require “rehab”.  She is very fond of mesquite beans and according to the vet might not survive another “binge” of them.  She should be kept in an area free of mesquite trees.

Other comments:  This is a lovely mare who is at the perfect age to progress in training.  She doesn’t carry the baggage of a former abusive home and has most likely been well treated by people all her life.  She was adored by her former owner who realized his mesquite pasture would not be a good place for her to live.  Unfortunately, that was the only place he had to keep her.  Having her best interests at heart, he signed her over to us so we could find her the perfect home.
