Temperament: Kermit is an easy going, loving old lady that has been around the block a time or two. She loves attention, and will walk up to you in the pasture to see if you have any treats. She is very well trained and would make a wonderful child’s first horse.

Physical problems / health issues: According to the vet, she has no problems, other than her teeth, which are in desperate need of floating. She is having trouble in gaining the weight she needs. She has gained in her neck, chest, and flanks. But her hips are still showing. Because she was a polo pony she was stalled a lot and has developed a swaying habit. But in the stall is the only place she will do that.

Interaction with horses: She loves being around other horses. She gets nervous when she can't see anyone. But she likes being off to herself a lot. When it comes to feeding time she is bossy and lets everyone know that this is her food/hay, but not in a mean way.

Interaction with people: With being an ex polo pony she is used to the every day brushing and care that she needs. When you walk up to the fence she is usually the first to see what is up and always looking for the scratch behind the ear.

Kermit is very loving and loves to be brushed. Once she’s brushed, she will follow that person around for more attention. When her handler was putting eye drops in, she rested her head on his shoulder and let him do what ever he wanted. She is very trusting once she gets to know you.

History: Kermit is an ex polo pony. She has numbers branded on her neck. Polo ponies from Argentina were branded that way a long time ago so the riders knew what horse to ride. So most likely, that is where she is from.

Most recently, she was picked up by animal control after she and another horse were found loose. When the owner was contacted, she said she could not afford to keep them so she turned both horses over to AC. AC in turn contacted HfH in Florida.

Training / abilities: Kermit has had a lot of training in her background. She handles well and has a great personality. She listens to you and does everything you ask of her, as if her only purpose is to please you. Her foster mom rides her in a Tom-Thumb but believes Kermit can go with a lighter bit.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner, as she is such a good girl. Her foster mom has put her 9 year old granddaughter that has never ridden before on Kermit and she did really well. Kermit will be a good child's first learning horse. She will let you know in her own gentle way if what you do is right or wrong. She shows no aggression to any person. The only time she is aggressive at all is at feeding time, and all she does is chase the other horses away so she can be first.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Easily. Lead? Yes, even with just a lead rope around her neck. Tie? Yes, on either a lead or cross ties. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Doesn’t like clippers around her ears, but fine with scissors. Trim Feet? All feet were picked up and cleaned by her temporary handler on the day she arrived. She was trimmed rather short so her feet were very tender on arrival at temporary home. She still let the handler pick up her feet and work with her. Bathe? Loves it! Her foster mom put a sprinkler out in the pasture to keep the dust down and she stands under the sprinkler.

Special needs: Except for her age she doesn't really have any. She runs and bucks around the pasture with everyone else. She's not a horse that can go out and do barrels or run around all day, but if you have a child that want to learn how to ride, or you want a pleasure/trail horse she will be great for it. She rarely shies and is good around cars and loud noises. Kermit has had a hard life and needs a lot of TLC; she is starving for love. She needs feed for an older horse and some kind of vitamins for her age.
