Health: Katee is in great overall health. She had laminitis in the past, but just needs shoes on her front feet for comfort. She is a very easy keeper. She gets a teaspoon and 3/4 of thyro-L in her feed and she eats all of it. She is on a low-carb pelleted feed and hay. She is very easy to look after. A pasture without grass would be best, and she should be kept on hay adlib.

socialization: She will be such a blessing to whoever adopts her. She is "been there done that", and she is a very smart horse. She's been known to figure out gate latches on her own! She is the kind of horse that will come when you call & try to help you put her halter on by thrusting her head into the halter. Very easy to work with! She is aggressive about her food, and needs to be fed separately from others

manners:Katee is very well behaved. For instance, when I walk into her stall and her rear is in the way, all I have to do is say "move" and she swings her rear out of my way. Sometimes she is so involved with her food, she needs the verbal command and just a touch on her hip to get her to move. In fact, I use a lot of verbal commands with her, whoa, forward, back..... I found that she responded well to verbal commands so I had to use less physical actions to work with her on the ground or riding. She is familiar with the buggy whip too & the whizzing sound & snap of the tip. That's all it takes to get her going to lunge her. When I would say "whoa" and hold up my hand, she would stop and face me. Then I would indicate with the whip for her to reverse and say "reverse" and she would do it. I never had touched her with the whip. She is very good at lifting her feet for you.

training:
Riding her is a dream. She is so smooth when in her running walk that you would not spill a drop if you held a glass full of water. She has always been ridden with a light hand and she remains very responsive to reigning. A person cannot ride her with a heavy hand. I always carried a small whip when I rode and if she refused to follow my command, all I had to do was show it to her and she would immediately do what I asked. However, when I have ridden her without spurs she doesn't always respond well. Putting spurs on and lightly nudging her in the sides does the trick. She just needs to know they are there (just like the whip) and does what she is asked to do 99% of the time. In the past when I had gone a long time not riding, I would saddle her and just take her through her paces on the lunge line and make her back up some too. After that, it was enough to remind her I am boss. I then would get on her and ride. She might kind of hop a little because she was so excited to be going, but that is all. Katee is used to riding in arenas and trail riding some. I used to show her in racking horse pleasure riding. She did fairly well and we won a lot of second and third place and a few first place ribbons. At the Racking Horse Celebration one year, Katee placed fourth! I was very proud of her to do so well at the big show with more than 25 horses in her class.
