Kandi
Breed: Quarter
Horse

AQHA
Sex: Mare
DOB: 1996
Height:
15.1 hh
Color: Sorrell
Markings:
Strip and snip, four
white socks Location:
Blakely, GA
Adoption Fee:
$500
Temperament: Kandi
is a gentle and loving horse when her human is gentle and loving
with her. If her human is aggressive, she can get aggressive. She
whinnies every time you walk out and whistle for her. She was
imprint trained at birth and at times tends to treat humans like
another horse. She has a lot of attitude to go with her personality.
She loves attention and grooming. When in new situations she needs
time to check things out. She does not respond well to a strong hand
but rather does better when allowed to come to a decision on her own
through use of praise.
Physical problems / health issues: Kandi was
diagnosed in May 2004 with asthma when she lived in the Austin area.
She has not shown any
signs of asthma in FL. She has not been
asked to work strenuously, but has walked and trotted around
pastures with a rider just fine. She also can speed around in the
pastures and does not appear winded at all.
The right side of Kandi's head
appears to have sustained some kind of trauma or she was born with
some birth defect as it is dented and her eye is a bit flattened.
It's a cosmetic flaw only, and not immediately obvious. She appears
to have full vision in the eye
Kandi shouldn't have
coastal as she has
coliced twice on
coastal. She does
well on T&A and is a
very easy keeper.
Interaction with horses:
She gets along well with other horses but will try to prove that
she is the boss.
Interaction with people:
History: She
was donated to HfH by her owner whose vet advised moving her north
of central Texas.
Training / abilities:
Kandi is broke to
ride Western. In her foster home, she's given a lead line ride, at a
walk, to a small child without incident. Kandi's skills could use
some refinement as she does not neck rein yet. Pleasure
riding, no evidence of asthma has been detected up in OK, her foster
mom's vet feels it may have been an allergy rather than true asthma.
She speeds around the pastures and does not appear winded.
Experience level
required to work with
this horse: Intermediate on the ground and under
saddle. Kandi would probably be suitable for a gentle advanced
beginner if she had 30 days of professional work.
Has this horse ever:
Bucked?
Crow hopped at times when asked to lope and doesn't want to Reared?
No. Kicked? Attempted when being caught/haltered, but had no
intention of really making contact. She will test a new handler
with this. Bitten? Has attempted, but again, half-heartedly
not intending to make contact. Just grumpiness at times.
Ground handling:
Catch?
Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes, but
will test new handlers and pitch a fit at times. Again, firm but
gentle handling and she will do what is asked Clip? Yes
except for nose area. Trim Feet? Yes Bathe? Yes
Special needs: Home in
Oklahoma or more north preferable due to past asthma symptoms in
Central Texas. We've seen no evidence of asthma in Oklahoma.
Other comments:
Kandi is
generally an easy keeper. She doesn't require a lot of feed, and
does not need to be shod, only trimmed. She's done well on
rides around her foster families' acreage and could make someone a
nice pleasure horse.
