Temperament: This little guy has had a lot of changes in his life so far. He’s lost his mom, been injured and lost an eye. His previous family didn’t care enough to take care of him, so he needs a new family who will love him and give him a chance! Jerry James is calm, totally laid back; it’s hard to believe he’s just a baby!

Physical problems / health issues: Jerry James’ mother kicked him in the face, damaging his eye. His previous owners did not bring him in to have it cared for. At this point it will have to be removed, as the infection is too bad to save it. However, Jerry gets around just fine (turned out with a babysitter 34 year old Arabian gelding!), and he will easily adapt to the loss, since he is so young.

Interaction with horses: Unknown yet.

Interaction with people: Loves people….loves hugs and brushing…totally a sweetheart.

History: Jerry James’ previous owners did not have his eye injury cared for. Had it been treated right away, it is likely he would still be able to see out of it. He was brought to the Elgin vet clinic with his mother, where he was left. The previous owners told the vets to put him down. Jerry’s Mom is a registered QH, and his sire is a registered Arabian, apparently one of the best “cow Arabs” in the country, yet to them he wasn’t worth taking care of.

Lucky for Jerry, the vets called HfH, and he will now receive the care that he needs. When he grows up, he’ll make a great horse for someone, trainable for just about anything!

Training / abilities: Just a baby!

Experience level required to work with this horse: Experienced with babies would be best.

Has this horse ever: Bucked? Playfully Reared?  Kicked? No (Not even having blood pulled and shots!) Bitten? No Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Not attempted yet. Trailer? Clip? Trim Feet? Learning to pick up. Bathe?

Special needs: Feeding to catch up (was weaned WAY too early and is still a little thin).

Other comments: JJ is the sweetest, most kind baby you’ve ever seen. Leads, walks beside you---just like he’s done it his whole life (rather than having his first halter on the day he came into the rescue!) Loves attention, super smart little baby!!! (beautiful also!)
