Temperament:  Docile, likes a strong leader, still a little fearful at times with new things she's unsure of.  With training, she's coming along very well and is accepting of anything asked on the ground.

Physical problems / health issues: Jeannie has about 3-4 growths on her that look like warts.  The vet is not concerned unless they should change in appearance. Jeannie is wearing shoes for her training work since her trainer lives on rocky ground.  She will likely need shoes for work on rougher terrain.

Interaction with horsesJeannie is with 6 other mares including a mini, they all get along well.  Prior to seizure, she was with other mares and stallions. Jeannie was in the round pen with 6 other horses running and acting crazy outside the round pen.  Jeannie was calmly eating her hay.  She didn't worry about them at all.

Interaction with people:

History: Donated in lieu of seizure.

Training / abilities: Her foster home is working on ground manners.  Jeannie is smart and learns quickly. Jeannie's foster mom was going to work on trailer loading with the trailer.  She decided that was a bit premature, so put 2 barrels in the round pen to squeeze her through.  Jeannie asked, "What's the big deal" as she walked through.  So, Foster Mom put them parallel to the fence of the round pen.  Again, right through, turned around, right back.  Next, Foster Mom put them closer to the fence, as close as being in a trailer with dividers.  Right through.  Foster Mom had her stop and back up and Jeannie haven't even worked on back up.  She did it like a pro.

July 05 Update: Jeannie's trainer is working her on the ground with great progress, she will round pen, ground drive, tie for long periods of time and works well with a saddle on.  Her trainer is continuing towards riding, though with Jeannie, she has to go slow at times due to some fear issues.  Once she gets over it,  she has it down, but it can take her a bit of time to get used to new things where riding is concerned.  She accepts a saddle readily, but needs to learn to accept pressure there.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Intermediate in the ground, experienced trainer for starting under saddle.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? Yes, she's had some bucking episodes in her training when fearful. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Usually  Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes Clip? Not yet  Trim Feet? First farrier visit, she was uncertain, but allowed her feet to be trimmed.  She would not stand long enough for her fronts to shod, but pretty typical of a horse that hasn't had much done with her feet.  She had to be sedated to have her shoes put on, but trainer is continuing work with picking up feet  Bathe?  Yes

Special needs: Jeannie needs training.  She is willing and wants to please.

Other comments: When she was seized, her mane and tail were full of burrs.  She allowed strangers to stand around her and work to get them all out. Jeannie seems to have the potential to be a kid's game day horse.  She is small, short back and short neck and sooooo sweet.  Jeannie has been in training for 6 weeks so far and will continue with another 30 days in hopes of progressing to riding.
