Irish
Breed: Shetland Pony
Sex: Gelding
DOB: 2005
Height:
9.1 hh or 37"
Color: Sorrel
Markings:
Flaxen main, coronet
bands on all four
Location:
Sealy, Tx Adoption Fee:
$250
Temperament:
Shy, but willing. He
was handled minimally
until 7/08 so he is
doing a lot of making up
for lost time. Shows
fear of men but is much
more confident with
women. He has a good
mind and just needs
handling and education.
Interaction with horses:
Irish is currently
pastured with 2 other
pony geldings and he is
at the bottom of the
herd. Very passive.
Interaction with people:
Again, he is shy and is
at times unsure what
people are asking of him
but once he understands
he is okay. Irish shows
more fear of men.
History:
Law enforcement seizure
due to neglect.
Training / abilities:
He is a perfect size to
eventually be a leadline
pony for small
children. Irish could
also be trained to pull
a cart and he’d be very
fancy doing it.
Physical problems /
health issues:
Fixated Patella that
could be improved with
uphill exercise. He is
also still in need of
about 20lbs to be filled
out and healthy.
Experience level
required to work with
this horse:
Because he can be a
little shy and sometimes
skittish, a quiet
intermediate person
would be needed until he
is more confident. He
is so small though, he
is easily maneuvered and
handled.
Has this horse ever:
Bucked? NO
Reared? NO
Kicked? NO
Bitten? Yes, before
he was gelded. He was
in need of manners and
respect of people when
he got here. He bit me
one time and we
“discussed” it. He has
never done it again or
even offered to.
Other?
Ground handling:
Catch? Yes
Lead? Yes Tie?
Yes Trailer?
Yes Clip? Not
attempted Trim Feet?
Needs work, but yes
he can be trimmed
Bathe? Not attempted
Special needs:
Other comments:
Irish just needs someone
to trust. He has bonded
to me very strongly and
because of that trust I
can do just about
anything with him. He
thrives on repetition
and a schedule-as long
as he knows what to
expect he’s fine. He
has not been introduced
to lots of everyday
things that most ponies
his age have already
seen, so he is very much
like working with a
foal. I am doing as
much exposure with him
as I can-including kids.
He is also just
beautiful and has the
most velvety nose and
coat I have ever
touched. He is a doll
boy and deserves a
loving home.
