Iris
Breed: Arabian/Quarterhorse cross (Quarab)
Sex: Mare
DOB: 1990
Weight:
Height: ~13.2 hh
Location: Southlake, Texas
Adoption Fee: $100

Temperament: Iris is a gentle horse who has had many babies, that last one of which went terribly wrong for her. She craves attention and follows her foster mom all over.

Physical problems / health issues: This poor mare recently had a difficult birth and the baby was stillborn. She suffered a ruptured prepubic tendon that resulted in no support for some of her internal organs, which are now descended in her belly. One vet indicated that he's seen horses live out their lives this way without pain. HfH will be doing some research on this. Iris has been evaluated and is doing just fine, no signs of pain and gets around okay.

Interaction with horses: She was pastured with mares and a stud colt (probably her son who bred many of his siblings).

Interaction with people:

History: She was donated by her owner who could no longer properly care for her. Broodmare, has had many babies

Training / abilities: Was broke to ride in the past None, companion only.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Advanced Beginner

Has this horse ever: Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other? No.

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? She was literally picked up and put into the trailer without protest Clip? Unknown. Trim Feet? Has trouble lifting her back feet but working on it Bathe? Unknown

Special needs: Although Iris looks very poor in terms of her descended belly, she seems like a happy horse and has never exhibited signs of pain. She's been used very hard with multiple pregnancies for many years and deserves some love in her life.
