Whispered Nickers:
Sometimes, very special people quietly do very special things for someone else they don't even know and sometimes that someone is a horse. They don't do it because it is expected. They don't do it to make friends. They do it because their heart tells them to. They may never meet the horses whose lives they have changed, but they can hear with their hearts the whicker, a whispered nicker, of that horse who is enjoying a full stomach for the first time in a long time, and plenty of fresh water, a safe, dry place to rest and the voice of a human telling him it's going to be better now. Their feet will get better because their overgrown hooves will be trimmed the thrush from standing in urine soaked stalls will be cured. The horses each come with a different story. Some have faced major disasters, fire, flood and had to be evacuated. Some were forgotten, left to starve. Some come with injuries that have been left untreated for lack of funds for veterinary care. Some, still youngsters were bound for slaughter due to overbreeding, when someone, somewhere said, "Can't we at least help this one or two?" All of these horses cried out for help, not knowing if anyone was listening. And sometimes, when they least expect it, they find that someone was. I'd like to tell you about some of those special people, who found a special way to help and turn the cries & whinnies into sweet little whickers and joyful nickers.
Nickers to:
Virginia Karanough, a 10 year old young lady, asked for no presents for herself. She requested all money be donated to Habitat for Horses. Her generous gift was $610.00! What a selfless young lady. What an amazing woman she will become.
In Passing:
Mary Harvey, an astounding business woman and supported horses all her life. Her gift to the horses was $485.00!
Daphne Montle, an accomplished horsewoman, died young. She was very loved and respected. Her gift was $1,380.00!
That the families of these two women would honor them with gifts to benefit the horses is overwhelming and a touching tribute.
