"These assessments are based on how these horses respond in their current environment and any change in their current environment, riders, diet, etc could have an effect on the horses' immediate performance. Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision"

Explain overall socialization: Hollywood is one of those horses that is still scared from his treatment at the track, and was clearly abused at some point in his life before he came into our care. As such, he is very slow to trust and requires an understanding person willing to give him the time he needs. Because of this, he can be temperamental and aloof, but once he trusts you he enjoys the company. He loves carrots. He and Goliath are attached at the hip and cannot be more than a few yards apart. As such, they must be adopted together. He does good with other geldings and seems to be okay with mares, but hasn't been around them much. They both reportedly love water and will play in it for hours. The previous owner also indicated he let them play and swim in the lake on the property to help calm and relax them after a work out. NOTE: He is very sensitive about his ears being touched, even after years of his owner working with him.

Explain manners: He is good on the ground so long as you don't try to mess with his ears. He is sensitive to certain sounds and loud noises, particularly ambulance sirens, loud speakers, loud music, trailer doors slamming shut, etc. He doesn't bolt out from under you, but it does make him nervous. He will load in a trailer, but he panics if you take him too far away from Goliath, so they need to be loaded quickly and quietly. His previous owner said that he will kick with his front feet if you try to mess with his ears.

Explain overall training: He was originally trained as a racer, but for the past four years was ridden and worked daily in cross-country. He is extremely strong and intelligent, and needs a rider is confident and that can take control of him in a calm, patient way. He can be a bit spooky as he is highly attentive and sensitive to sounds and fast movement. He needs a confident, experienced rider to keep him focused. Once he gets on a set feeding schedule, he does not cooperate about an hour before feeding time. His previous owner reports he loves, running, jumping, and swimming, and would excel the best at cross-country. It would be best to do some basic groundwork and build his trust before ever attempting to ride him.

Explain history if known: He raced from June 2003 to November 2004. He was retired for some time and later donated to us in March 2006 when he went straight to a foster home. He was adopted in January 2007 and then was relinquished back to us June 2011 due to the owner no longer being able to afford his care.
