13.3 hh
Arrival
Date: October
2005
Location:
Navasota, TX
Adoption Fee:
$100
Temperament:
Domino is a good boy
- quite a character.
He's very well mannered
on the ground and acts
like a seasoned horse
should.
Physical problems / health issues: None known.
Interaction with horses: Domino does not know he's a gelding and he also does not know he's
nearing 30 years old. He does best turned out with all mares.
He's gone out in a mixed herd, but has a tendency to "herd" the mares
away form the other geldings. He also has a tendency to chase other
geldings to keep them away from "his" girls. He has
attempted to mount the mares he's pastured with. He can also be aggressive to those he views as
competition for the mares affections. He will back down with
dominant mares, quite easily in fact.
Interaction with people:
History:
Seized by law enforcement due to neglect
and awarded to the
rescue.
Training / abilities:
Domino saddled up great, he has
wonderful ground
manners. He didn't
like the bridle/bit, so
a hackamore was used.
He did not lunge well,
he got a bit aggressive
and seemed to want to
run into his handler.
When his foster mom went
to put weight in the
stirrups, he reared and
bucked and got very
agitated. So, it
appears he needs more
work or is not broke to
ride. He needs further
evaluation. If
broke, could certainly
be used for riding
still, has tons of
energy!
Experience level required to work with this horse: Advanced beginner on the ground once haltered, experienced to train
or further assess under saddle
(if ever).
Has this horse ever:
Bucked?
Yes, when weight was
put in the stirrups. Reared?
Yes, when weight was put in the stirrups. Kicked? No. Bitten?
No. Other?
No.
Ground handling:
Catch?
Yes. Lead? Yes Tie?
Yes Trailer? Yes Clip?
Unknown. Trim Feet? Yes Bathe? Yes
Special needs:
Other comments: Domino is a gorgeous true black pony who does not act his age at
all. He's an easy keeper for his age too, though needs to be
on a senior's diet. If someone had a mare that needed company,
he would be a great candidate. On the ground, he's fine for a family
environment. It's hard to believe this pony was not broke at some
point, so further work could lead him to act better in regards to
work and riding.
