“These assessments are based on how these horses respond in their current environment and any change in their current environment, riders, diet, etc could have an effect on the horses' immediate performance. Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision.”

Overall is Healthy

 B

Explain overall Health:  Overall does well, but unable to really gain weight. Two veterinarians have said she will probably never fill completely out. Her feet are splayed and flat and the farrier said he suspects coffin bone erosion due to chronic founder. Tender on gravel but is comfortable walking around the soft pasture. Sometimes trots or canters around when the other horses do. Both vet and chiropractor said she has lots of arthritis in her spine and hind end. Cap of one hip bone broken off,  probably happened coming through a gate, or out of a chute, or some other kind of accident.

Explain manners: Sometimes walks off when approached, but will allow herself to be caught if you persist in walking after her. Stands calm for fly spray. Will lead with just a rope around her neck. She kicked out once when her back foot was being trimmed, but that’s the only time she did anything like that.

Explain overall training:  She was probably trained young for racing but it is unknown whether she was ridden after that. She was tested under saddle and wanted to go very fast and when held back came off her front feet. She should not be ridden because of the condition of her feet and her arthritis.

Explain history if known:  Was abandoned in a field with no food or water and left to die. Came into rescue in December 2007 and was VERY thin with terrible rain rot and broken feet. Has a Jockey Club tattoo. Looks as if she was used as a brood mare.
