Temperament:  Right brain introvert – very shy and timid, very limited confidence with people.  Dash will spook at almost anything, man made, horse made or otherwise.  He has been with us 7 weeks now and this has changed slightly.  We are always careful around him because if he gets frightened nothing will stand in the way of his fleeing.

Physical problems / health issues:  Parrot mouth, but we have not had his teeth checked to see if this can be improved.  He does not have a problem eating grain/oats, hay or grass.

Interaction with horses:  Dash is very attached to the yearling colt that came with him. He is out with a mixed herd – geldings & mares, 3 yr olds & older horses.  He can be aggressive towards the colt however has learned his place with the rest of our horses.  Our 3 year old filly definitely keeps Dash in his place.  We did get an older rescue in recently that he has also been aggressive towards but I think he is attempting to protect the younger colt.

Interaction with people: Upon arrival Dash was extremely fearful of people and the surroundings.  Just about any noise or movement caused him to jump, shy or flee.  This was so extreme that during feeding one evening one of my horses coughed and Dash fell to his knees when he spooked.  He will just tremble with fear.  The sight of a halter or rope scares him, slapping gloves in your hand scares him, spreading hay scares him and kissing to him can cause him to come unglued.  As stated below I had an instructor work with Dash 3 times.  This was only to help us handle him.  There has been a slight improvement; I can now rub him from head to hind quarters with very direct movement but must allow him the time to understand my intentions.  We do not act overly quiet around him we are just normal.  However we are always very aware when working around Dash because of his fears and how he reacts.

History: Training / abilities:   Our instructor worked with Dash 3 times for 20 minute sessions.  This was only to work on ground handling - haltering and leading.  Dash really tries but his confidence has only improved slightly.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Experienced/Trainer – Dash really needs someone experienced to help him overcome his fears and to help him build confidence.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked?  Reared?  Kicked?  Bitten?  Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes in a corral Lead? Yes in a corral Tie?  Trailer?  Yes with much difficulty  Clip?  Trim Feet?   Bathe?

Special needs:

Other comments:  Dash really tries.  He just really needs an experienced person to help him overcome his fears so that he may become more confident allowing him to have a promising future.  We have seen slight improvements with his behavior.  Most recently he followed me into the corral instead of running in front of me.  He comes up to me to sniff my hands and gloves and tries to keep his feet still.  He also will hang around us if the younger colt is there.
