Cricket
Breed: Thoroughbred/Holsteiner Cross Sex: Gelding DOB:
1988 Height:
16.2 hh
Location: Forgan, OK
Adoption Fee:
$100
Temperament:
Cricket is a sweet, big
guy who is mostly
cooperative on the
ground. He can get
cranky with his aches
and pains at times.
Physical problems / health issues: Cricket has a damaged larynx from unknown causes. He was scoped since he seemed to have trouble breathing. It's especially evident when he eats. The vet said he has an issue with the nerve that opens and closes the larynx. It does not function properly. This doesn't cause him any pain, though can be alarming sounding to new people. There is no special treatment required either.
Arthritis in a shoulder from an older injury. A lameness exam was
recently conducted and the vet concluded that he could do extensive
x-rays which require laying him down with heavy sedation, but that
the verdict would likely be the same regardless: light riding only
on good days. He did a lameness exam and Cricket is definitely lame
on his bad side.
March Update: Cricket was tried under saddle and even with
minimal walking and trotting, he was lame. So, he should not
be ridden.
