Temperament: She is a lovely, sweet mare. She is personality plus.  She'll greet you with a whinny when she sees you coming and will nicker at you constantly - especially if there is food to be had.  She's very gentle, and even allows us to rest her injured hoof on a knee when cleaning/treating it.

Physical problems / health issues: Confetti injured leg in Dec. '05 and has reinjured it in May of 2007. She cut off the back of her right front pastern and hoof 1 1/2 years ago. The part that was cut had to be removed so it was a raw wound and took a long time to heal. She has had a limp since then. She has reinjured herself in the same place, but this time the hoof is not involved. The area above the hoof has been sliced open. The previous owners were told by the vet to keep it wrapped and she is able to walk. Nothing else was done; she was not seen by a vet until her entry into HfH.

The wound might have healed quite well if it had been treated immediately.  At this point we don't know. As of now, her future is uncertain. It's too early to tell if she will be permanently lame, but it's a high probability because of the previous injury.  However, the probability of a bone infection (our biggest fear) is going down every day - and that's the important thing right now.  We also suspect that she had/has an ulcer.  If they had been giving her bute frequently it's very possible.  We're treating for an ulcer now as well, and she seems to be much more comfortable.

Interaction with horses:

Interaction with people: She is a very sweet, easy to work with mare.

History: Confetti was a well-trained show horse who did very well until her first injury.

Training / abilities: Confetti has an ROM in APHA Western Pleasure. She is trained in English and Showmanship as well. She was a show horse until her injury a year and a half ago. She has been ridden by a ten year old in the past year, as can’t handle too much weight or hard work because of the prior injury. Confetti is a great kid’s horse to learn on. She has all the show horse “buttons” so she will side pass, pivot, setup, back, lower head, etc. She clips like a dream. She washes, loads, etc. No cribbing, weaving, or other known bad habits. She is calm and a pleasure for anyone to work with.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked?  Reared?  Kicked?  Bitten?  Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Yes. Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Yes.

Special needs: Confetti will need care for a while to treat her injury, and it is unknown how well she will recover from it.
