Temperament: Cody is really coming along gaining lots of weight.  He is so sweet!!  He is going to make someone a great horse.  He allows you to do just about anything with him. I’ve even put a saddle on his back, However, he’s still too young to ride, so I’m doing ground work. You can throw a blanket on him without a problem. He really trusts us now and comes running when we’re outside.

Physical problems / health issues: He was running and playing and fell. Doesn’t appear to be limping, but his hock is swollen. I’ve been wrapping it.

Interaction with horses: He’s at the bottom of the herd, but will ease into the group.

Interaction with people: Great, very loving

History: Cody was seized by law enforcement in Denton County awarded to Habitat for Horses.

Training / abilities: Cody (3 1/2 years old) has had some major accomplishments since our last update.  Not only is he fitting in well at the barn with the other horses, and filling out nicely, but we've started working with him pretty seriously.  I just recently took him to a despooking clinic.  He has not been off the ranch since he arrived back in October 2007, so I knew he was going to be on sensory override.   There were 15 other horses at a place he had never seen before, this was going to be fun. He needed this outing and boy did he thrive!!

After 20 minutes he was with the program.  Everyone was just amazed how fast he learned and relaxed.  He went over a tarp and a bridge.  He had balloons and ribbons tied all around him.  They cracked a whip that sounded like gunshots right next to him.  As you can see from the pictures, we're putting a saddle on him with no problem.  After he's been worked for a couple of weeks, we're going to try to ride him.  It looks like he is going to be a natural!!

Experience level required to work with this horse: Intermediate.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No. Reared? No. Kicked? No. Bitten? No. Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes, walks up to you. Lead? Yes. Tie? Yes. Trailer? Yes. Clip? Not tried. Trim Feet? Yes. Bathe? Yes.

Special needs: None.
