Calico
Breed: Paint
Sex: Mare
DOB: 1987
Height:
14 hh
Color: Sorrel &
White
Markings:
Location:
Cat Spring, TX
Adoption Fee:
$350
Temperament:
Absolutely calm and
willing to do anything
you ask her.
Physical problems /
health issues:
Had hernia surgery last
year and is
recuperating. She still
has a “bulge” on her
left side, which is
improving as she gains
more muscle tone over
it. Her surgical site
is totally healed, but
she still has a visible
“lump”. Her vets have
said that as she gains
more muscle tone, it may
appear a lot smaller…or
may stay about the same
size it is now. She
should not be restricted
as to gaits (she can
walk, trot, canter) but
should not be encouraged
to do sports such as
high jumping, gaming,
etc.
Interaction with horses:
Cali is the
middle of the herd.
She gets along with
everybody…even if she
acts like a bossy mare
and pins her ears
occasionally! Cali
needs to be in a herd of
horses that is not
dominant and
aggressive.
Interaction with people:
Magnificent, calm,
quiet. This horse has
a beautiful soul, and is
tremendously kind and
trusting. She has had
a lot of medical
attention this past year
(bandage changes, eye
infections that required
medicating several times
a day) and she has never
offered to be anything
but an angel. She loves
attention, being brushed
on, and cookies!
History:
Seized due to
neglect.
Training / abilities:
Cali has just
now started having a
rider on her. She is
good as gold, but her
skills are a bit rusty.
(no power steering or
brakes). She had a lot
of fun being saddled and
obviously felt very
special when a young
rider was put on her.
She has lovely gaits
and would make a
beautiful pony hunter.
Due to her size, she is
especially built for a
youngster. Cali is
small boned, in addition
to being short in
stature. The young lady
riding her in the
pictures is 10.

Special needs:
For a horse that was
starved, she sure is a
picky eater!!! We know
that vets and
experienced horse people
recommend never changing
feed abruptly, but you
will need to be flexible
with this girl! She
will ALWAYS eat alfalfa,
and that is her main
source of nutrition (she
eats it am and pm).
Her grain of choice
until last week was
crimped oats (sometimes
plain…sometimes with
carrots/apples chopped
up in the bucket). She
is always offered two
feeds (oats and either
Senior, if she will eat
some, or Omolene 100
from Purina (currently
that is her other food
of choice!)
