Temperament: Thistle is a nice mare.  She is calm and kind.  Her foster Mom says she is a doll.

Physical problems / health issues: Thistle has a blown front knee from long ago that is healed now.  She gets around just fine but she is not inclined or encouraged to run.  She has some old age issues including no upper teeth and few lower teeth.

Interaction with horses: Her horse buddies need to be kind and gentle like her.  She would not do well with pushy, aggressive, or hyper horses.  If she was with young or very active horses she would feel obliged to try to keep up and cause further injury to her bad knee.

Interaction with people: Kid friendly.  Not a mean bone in her body.  Very safe, gentle, quiet, and sweet-natured.

History: Thistle once was a roping and general riding horse who ended up emaciated and near death when she came into HfH care.

Training / abilities: She is well broke and was said to have been used in parades and rodeos.  Her vet advises against riding her because of her knee problems and advanced age.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner.  She would make a terrific practice horse for children learning to groom and care for a horse.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No Reared? No Kicked? No Bitten? No Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes Clip? Yes Trim Feet? Yes, with care due to her leg issues Bathe? Yes

Special needs: Thistle tries to eat hay but cannot digest it so she is fed large amounts of soaked senior feed.  Her forever home should be aware that she was once a cribber but does not need to wear her cribbing collar anymore since she is lacking teeth to crib with.  Thistle is looking for a quiet retirement home with an undemanding buddy.

Other comments: Thistle is a super sweet old lady who appreciates her care and is a joy to be around.  She is alert and happy and fond of the elderly gentleman gelding she is currently pastured with.
