Temperament: Gentle, sweet, pocket pony, loves attention.

Physical problems / health issues Bly had surgery at 10 months of age to repair an impalement on her side near her flank and she  also had  a herniated navel that was corrected.  At that time, she was given a 50/50 chance by the veterinarian of being “ridable” by a small child in the future.  Also, her growth appears to have been stunted.  However, she is a very easy keeper. I was able to add weight to her small frame very quickly.  To my knowledge, she has not been re-assessed by a veterinarian since she was adopted and subsequently relinquished.

Interaction with horses: Bly is very submissive and at the lower end of the pecking order, probably in part due to her small size.  However, she does have enough spunk to pin her ears and boss around the mule pony.

Interaction with people: A true pocket pony, follows me around the barn or the pasture. She loves attention and treats. She has kicked once in her past home and has also attempted to bite me when picking up her feet. However, I believe this is largely due to a lack of handling.  I’ve picked her feet several times since then with no incidents.  She was worked with very minimally in her previous home, so I believe she was just a little “rusty”.  She’s doing great with whatever is asked of her now.

History: Bly was turned over to HFH in 2006 when she was 10 months old. She was an estray in Tarrant County and had been impaled on her side near her flank area. She had surgery to treat the injury and was adopted by her foster home.  Her adoptive home has recently relinquished her due to no fault of her own.  The adopter is simply lacking the ability to provide for Bly’s needs at this time.

Training / abilities: She halters and leads well but has had no formal training. Depending on a new veterinary assessment, she could possibly be trained to ride for a VERY small child, or she could be a very beautiful pasture princess.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Beginner on the ground.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No Reared? No Kicked? Once Bitten? No, but she did nip at me  once when I tried to pick her feet for the first time in her new foster home, likely from a lack of handling. She just needs a little more practice.  Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer? Yes  Clip?  Trim Feet? Yes  Bathe? Yes

Special needs: She is very much a “herd member” and prefers to be with other horses. She is not a good candidate to be an only horse.

Other comments:
Bly is a little princess who deserves a forever home that will shower her daily with love and attention.
