horseBenny
Breed: Quarter Horse
Sex: Gelding
YOB: 1980
Height: 14 hh
Color: Sorrel
Location: Dodd City, TX
Adoption Fee: $250

Temperament: Benny is a super friendly and gentle old man.  He loves attention!

Physical problems / health issues: None known at this time, has choked in his past, but that fact has not posed a problem for his current foster home or him.

Interaction with horses: Benny is in the lower middle of the herd he is in.  He seems to always be there but never causes problems.

Interaction with people: Benny is very friendly and sociable and loves to come and visit to meet the new people at the Ranch.

History: Benny was donated in lieu of a seizure.

Training / abilities:  Benny is very easy to handle on the ground and under saddle. Under saddle he is a very spunky old man.  With regular riding he is fantastic. He is currently being ridden by an 11 year girl and is bombproof. He can be ridden with a hoola hoop over his neck, toys swung over his head, and even over mattresses.

Experience level required to work with this horse Advanced beginner, a rider who has learned how to be gentle with a horse’s mouth as Benny is very responsive and he does not need someone with rough hands handling his mouth at his age.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No Reared? No Kicked? Only at other horses during feeding time Bitten? No Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Yes Lead? Yes Tie? Yes Trailer?  Yes Clip? Not yet attempted Trim Feet?  Yes, is awesome for the farrier, my farrier says that he wishes all horses were as well behaved! Bathe?  Yes

Special needs: Soaked feed.  He has choked in his past and needs a large bucket that the feed does not get clumped all in one spot—as long as he has a wide bucket, he does not need his feed soaked, but if the adopter gives him a traditional feed bucket, he will need his feed soaked and with a few large rocks in it to avoid gulping his food and choking. I use a large plastic barrel cut in half to feed most of my horses—it is more economical as they don’t get as much food on the ground and only costs $5 for the barrel!

Other comments: Benny is a wonderful horse with a great attitude.  He would be an awesome riding buddy for an advanced beginner child who wants some spunk under saddle and has learned how to gently use their hands.  We have lots of pictures of Benny, please ask for them and we will email them to you!
