Temperament:  Ava is very calm, but at this point, she like things on her own terms.

Physical problems / health issues: None.

Interaction with horses: She is in the middle of the mixed herd.  Gets along fine with everyone, but seems to be the type who will always have a buddy.

Interaction with people: Somewhat aloof and uncertain.  At first she would put her ears back when approached, but that doesn’t work here, so she’s not doing it as much.

History: Donated

Training / abilities:  We are beginning ground work.  She is ready to learn anything.   She should be a dream to train, as she will resist mildly, but then submit.  Absolutely no fight or flight in her.  She is not scared of anything, and seems to look at new things with a "Huh, will you look at that" attitude.  It seems her only defense is an "Ugly Face" she puts on at times. Although she tried to bite her first two days, she has not done that since and actually has the softest mouth when she is given cookies. I can clean
her front hooves in a stall without restraint and lead her from stall to stall with only a lead around her neck.  She is not really an in-your-pocket, people horse, but I think that she will be able to be trained very easily and will be a superb mount.

Experience level required to work with this horse: Either someone who has experience training a young horse, or has access to a trainer.

Has this horse ever:  Bucked? No Reared? No Kicked? Yes, when she first arrived and was pushed, but only maybe twice.  Bitten? Yes, when she first arrived and was pushed, but only maybe twice.  Other?

Ground handling: Catch? Fair and is getting better every day and even came up to her foster Mom in the pasture the other day.  Lead? Yes, she can be hesitant, but that is just a case of the “I don’t want to’s”.  When encouraged by a lunge whip, she relents.  Tie? Yes.  When she had pressure from being tied, instead of freaking out, she gave to the pressure, and took a few steps to relieve it. Trailer? Yes, but she could use more training Clip? No Trim Feet? Yes, was very good for the farrier Bathe? No, she does not know fly spray and did not like a damp cloth.  I don’t know that she has ever been bathed, but I’ll work on this.

Special needs: Ava will need someone that is able to work with her and knows how to teach a young horse basic ground manners.  She is very smart and could be trained for anything.

Other comments: Ava is calm and not a fighter.  I applied pressure to her side and she automatically gave to it and pivoted on her forehand.
