“These assessments are based on how these horses respond in their current environment and any change in their current environment, riders, diet, etc could have an effect on the horses' immediate performance. Horses need time to adjust when moved to new surroundings. We highly recommend you visit, spend time with the equines and evaluate the equine before making a decision"

Angelique has a wonderful personality that will steal your heart. Not to mention this girl cleans up well and is gorgeous. Angel spent from 02/02/09 until 07/31/09 at a foster home where she had training, daily attention, and lot of love. She was adopted out to another individual but through no fault of her own was returned several days later. She is dominant but once your dominance is established she will always try to perform at her best. She is an over-achiever.  Some horses ask “Do I have to?” and Angel asks, “Ok, how was that…what’s next?” She would be an excellent intermediate dressage mount or would fair well as a trail horse. She did start jumping and did not mind it but needs further training. She does not really spook. Her foster introduced her to all sorts of things and never really got a reaction. She had daily turnout with two other mares.  She would probably be better with a rider under 150lbs because of her back. She loves treats but was given them by her foster only after she had worked and mostly in her stall because of her over excitement toward food. Her absolute favorite treats are Clementine’s.

Overall is Healthy

 A

Explain overall Health:  Angel is a very easy keeper. While at her foster for 7 months she maintained and nice weight and muscled out with regular exercise. She has one spot on her back that can be a little hot or sensitive. This can be maintained with a really good fitting saddle and an occasional chiropractic session. She has strong hooves and has been trimmed every 4-5 and stays barefoot.  Her feet need to be cleaned frequently especially during wet weather because she does have a flatter foot common in Arabians.  Her teeth are great but will probably be due for a float in the next 6 months. When she arrived at her foster she was examined by a vet and showed no sign of physical issues.  At her foster she was eating ~6lbs of Country Acres 12% pellet and 6-8 flakes of high quality coastal hay.

Explain overall socialization: She is a very confident, strong mare. After going to her foster, it took a few weeks for her to realize that she was not alpha.  She would still occasionally make ugly faces at a few of the geldings that she did not care for but with a quick “no” she remembers that is not proper manners.

Explain manners: Once again there is always a transition. She did kick out at a gelding while walking by him. After several months at her foster she was trusted enough to be bathed and groomed by the foster’s 6 year old daughter. She was in a habit of having her feet cleaned daily and would pick them up as soon as you walked to that shoulder. She is not a huge fan of having her face sprayed but loves having it brushed and rubbed.  With any horse that did not know where there next meal is coming from she can be a little possessive of her food. Her foster would make her back and wait every time and eventually she stopped being as possessive.

Explain overall training:  Angel spent 2 months in training with a professional trainer. The B’s above or only because she needs a more advanced rider. She was ridden English and mostly in a covered arena. She spent time alone or with as many as 5 other horses while riding in the arena. She was ridden by several intermediate dressage riders on a weekly basis. Angel is a very big mover. She has an extremely lofty trot even when slowed. She is very sensitive to pressure and very responsive. She is going to do what is asked of her even if it was an accident on your part.  If you squeeze, she is going to go.  If she feels like she can get the upper hand she will take it in a subtle way.  A confident intermediate rider with excellent balance is a must.  She was tacked, groomed and bathed in crossties and wash bay.

Explain history if known:  Came into HfH care pregnant with Kenzo and with her young colt Magic Boy at her side. She and her colt were malnourished and under weight.
